This Privacy Statement explains how Satbeams collects, uses and protects your personal data, and the rights you have under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

This Privacy Statement describes how Satbeams processes personal data when you use the website at satbeams.com and related services (the “Service”). We are committed to protecting your privacy and to processing your data in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (the “GDPR”), the Belgian Act of 30 July 2018 on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data, and the ePrivacy rules on cookies.

1. Who is responsible for your data

The data controller is Satbeams SRL, registered office Avenue de la Bonne Fosse 12, 1420 Braine-l'Alleud, Belgium. For any privacy matter, including exercising your rights, use our privacy contact form.

2. What data we collect

  • Account data — where you register: your email address, username and a securely hashed password, plus any profile preferences you choose to set.
  • Data from social sign-in providers: if you create an account or sign in using “Continue with Facebook” or “Continue with Google”, that provider gives us your name and email address so we can create or identify your Satbeams account. From Facebook (Meta Platforms) we request only the public_profile and email permissions. We do not receive your friends, posts, photos, contacts or any other profile data, we never receive your password, and we do not post anything to your account. See section 5.
  • Content you submit — messages you send us through the contact or feedback forms, and any information contained in them.
  • Usage and device data — collected automatically when you visit, such as IP address, browser type, operating system, referring pages, pages viewed and timestamps.
  • Cookies and similar technologies: small files stored on your device; see section 7.

We do not intentionally collect special categories of personal data (such as data revealing health, political opinions or biometric data), and we ask that you do not submit such data to us.

3. Why we process your data and the legal basis

We process personal data only where we have a lawful basis under Article 6 GDPR:

  • To provide the Service and manage your account — necessary for the performance of a contract with you (Art. 6(1)(b)).
  • To respond to your enquiries and feedback — our legitimate interest in communicating with users, or steps taken at your request prior to a contract (Art. 6(1)(b)/(f)).
  • To keep the Service secure, prevent abuse and diagnose problems — our legitimate interest in operating a safe, reliable service (Art. 6(1)(f)).
  • To measure and improve the Service using analytics — your consent, where required for non-essential cookies (Art. 6(1)(a)).
  • To comply with legal obligations — where the law requires it (Art. 6(1)(c)).

Where we rely on legitimate interests, we balance those interests against your rights and freedoms. You may object to such processing (see section 9).

4. Who we share data with

We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with:

  • Service providers (processors) who host our infrastructure, deliver content, send email and provide analytics, acting on our instructions under a data-processing agreement;
  • Authorities or advisers where we are legally required to disclose data, or to establish, exercise or defend legal claims.

5. Social sign-in

Signing in with Facebook or Google is entirely optional: you can always register with an email address and password instead.

If you do use it, the provider tells us your name and email address, and we use them only to create your Satbeams account or to identify an existing one. Your Facebook or Google password is never shared with us, and we do not keep the provider’s access token once sign-in has completed.

  • Facebook (Meta Platforms Ireland Limited): we request the public_profile and email permissions only. We do not request or receive your friends, posts, photos, likes or contacts, and we never publish anything to your Facebook account.
  • Google (Google Ireland Limited): we request the openid, email and profile scopes only.

You can disconnect Satbeams from your Facebook account at any time under Settings & Privacy → Settings → Apps and Websites, or from your Google account under Security → Your connections to third-party apps. Disconnecting stops future sign-ins but does not by itself delete your Satbeams account: to do that, see Deleting your account and data.

6. International transfers

Where personal data is transferred outside the European Economic Area, we ensure an adequate level of protection through an adequacy decision of the European Commission or appropriate safeguards such as the Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses. You may request details of the safeguards we use through our contact form.

7. Cookies and analytics

We use strictly necessary cookies to make the Service work (for example to keep you signed in and to remember preferences). These do not require consent. We may also use optional analytics or preference cookies, which are set only with your consent and can be withdrawn at any time through your browser settings or any cookie control we provide. Blocking non-essential cookies will not prevent you from using the core Service.

8. How long we keep data

We retain personal data only for as long as necessary for the purposes described above. Account data is kept while your account is active and for a reasonable period afterwards; correspondence is kept for as long as needed to handle your request and any follow-up; server and security logs are kept for a limited period for security and troubleshooting. When data is no longer needed it is deleted or anonymised.

9. Your rights

Subject to the conditions in the GDPR, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you (Art. 15);
  • Rectify inaccurate or incomplete data (Art. 16);
  • Erase your data in certain circumstances (Art. 17);
  • Restrict processing in certain circumstances (Art. 18);
  • Data portability — receive data you provided in a structured, machine-readable format (Art. 20);
  • Object to processing based on legitimate interests (Art. 21); and
  • Withdraw consent at any time, without affecting processing carried out before withdrawal (Art. 7(3)).

To exercise any of these rights, use our privacy contact form. We will respond within one month, as required by the GDPR. You will not have to pay a fee unless your request is manifestly unfounded or excessive.

You do not have to wait for us to erase your account: you can delete it and its personal data yourself, immediately, from your profile page. Step-by-step instructions, including for accounts created through Facebook or Google, are on Deleting your account and data.

10. Complaints

If you believe we have not handled your data properly, we would like the chance to put it right — please contact us first. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. Our lead supervisory authority is the Belgian Data Protection Authority (Autorité de protection des données / Gegevensbeschermingsautoriteit), Rue de la Presse 35, 1000 Brussels, Belgium — www.autoriteprotectiondonnees.be. You may also complain to the supervisory authority in your own EU country of residence or place of work.

11. Automated decision-making

We do not make decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects about you based solely on automated processing.

12. Security

We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal data against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure or destruction, including encryption in transit, hashed credentials and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

13. Children

The Service is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children below the age of digital consent applicable in their country. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us so we can delete it.

14. Changes to this statement

We may update this Privacy Statement from time to time. The “Last updated” date above shows the latest revision. Material changes will be highlighted on the Service where appropriate.
