Ariane 5 delivers the NSS 12 and THOR 6 television broadcast satellites on Arianespace’s sixth mission of 2009.

The sixth Ariane 5 mission of 2009 marked another success for this heavy-lift launcher, carrying the first satellite launched by Arianespace for Telenor Satellite Broadcasting AS – THOR 6, along with the 32nd spacecraft from the SES group of companies entrusted for an Ariane launch – NSS 12.

Ariane 5’s mission with NSS-12 and THOR 6 was performed from the Spaceport’s ELA-3 launch site in French Guiana.

Lifting off on time at 5:00 p.m. from the Spaceport in French Guiana, the Ariane 5 deployed the two television broadcast satellites during a mission lasting 31 minutes. It was the 48th flight of an Ariane 5 and its 34th success in a row.

Kourou, French Guiana (SPX) Oct 02, 2009 - On Thursday evening, October 1, Arianespace boosted two payloads into geostationary transfer orbit: the Amazonas-2 civil communications satellite for the Spanish operator Hispasat, and the ComsatbW-1 military communications satellite, built by Astrium for the German Ministry of Defense.

Nimiq 5 is successfully launched by ILS

BAIKONUR COSMODROME, Kazakhstan, September 18, 2009 –International Launch Services (ILS), a world leader in providing mission and launch services to the commercial satellite industry, successfully carried the Nimiq 5 satellite into orbit today on an ILS Proton for Telesat, the fourth largest fixed satellite services operator worldwide. This was the fifth commercial mission of the year for ILS and the seventh successful Proton launch of 2009. With the launch of Nimiq 5 today, ILS has launched half of Telesat’s operational fleet.
